This beautiful design evolved after seeing a beautiful splash of pink scattering the woodlands as I walked near Tintagel, Cornwall.
They are commonly known as Red Campion flowers but more affectionately known as Gipsy-Flowers in some parts of Cornwall.
I found their gentle beauty mesmerising as they were such delicate gems hiding in amongst the gatherings of other wildflowers and I have since discovered in The Language of Flowers they represent gentleness which I love.
Every time I saw a bunch of Cornish wildflowers displayed in cottage windows, cafes, or shop displays I noticed they would always included a bunch of gipsy-flowers which I found fascinating. When I enquired about this with a lovely local lady she said it was 'tradition' and that was that!
Once known as the 'merry drunk of the woodlands', they were also loved by the Romans who added these beauties into their crown garlands used for 'champions' at public games.
My favourite discovery about gipsy-flowers is they were also used as a soap for washing delicate linens in days gone by.
