This little design was inspired by a beautifully graceful plant I discovered whilst walking back along the hill from Tintagel Castle. I loved the design, reminding me of an old-fashioned Edwardian lace umbrella graced by the gentry on a lazy Sunday afternoon to keep the sun from tanning their faces.
Little did I know that it's frothy delicateness reveals a lethal tale....
'an umbel of small umbellets' - refers to a full bloom
This wildflower is the most deadly indigenous plant in Britain, Hemlock Water Dropwort, often found near fresh-water streams which is exactly where I discovered it.
I was flabbergasted!
I couldn't believe that such a beauty could cause such sadness and as a result I nearly didn't add it to my collection; and yet I loved it so...
The irregular shape is perfect for a starry romantic design, perhaps a Yuletide sparkly celebration or even as a gentle background when creating a textile collage and so, my design stayed in the collection!
I do hope you enjoy discover her beauty as much as I have....
